Material Existence and Meaning

Nihilism brings a sense of lack, of disorientation, and of despair. But... but where does sadness comes from? Why are we so sad that there is no so called meaning guiding and setting us to be what we are? I do not know but I did felt that negative emotion. The emotional instability comes from the crash of beliefs and knowing. For example, I believe that a person has meaning, but I know it does not exist. Then such incongruence of one's belief and knowledge causes the despair. But then what should one react from this incongruence is one's choice. The aesthetic choice would be like a tragic hero, acting according to beliefs that violate the reality principle, stepping toward the self-destruction without regrets, pursuing the desire regardless of the cost. Although one might facing the world without meaning, the heroic act is to live as if there is hope to restore one's meaning, allowing the occasion of despair attacking one's belief when no one is around. One then floats between the waves of struggling between the belief and knowledge. Active and passive nihilisms rises and falls like an endless flat circle. One might seek for the cure of existentialism, but the will of truth seeking then mocks the superficiality of the meaning, since truth of existence already presented itself as meaningless. Would one endure in this endless cycle of struggle? NO. There could be only one choice: either meaning or meaninglessness. Yet, in the framework of "meaning", the disturbance of nihilism could never be resolved. What should be choice be, when only lifeless truth and illusory life are available?

Yet, an indiscernible crack in this understanding between life and truth might result the collapse of this convoluted prison and brings the freedom. Who said that life needs meaning? HA! People might laugh this naive question and question back: how could one live without a meaning, a purpose, and a sense of direction? Like a dog?

Exactly, like a dog, no more no less, concerning not about what one should be, not about what one should achieve, not about questions that one cannot answer, not about a life beyond what you sense, but about what you are, what you could do, and what material existences are. What is so called meaningful life is when you are talking about the meaningful life? If it is that one should behave in certain way, then it the functionality. If it is what one should be, then it is the expectation. What is the meaning when you are discussing meaning? Examples might provide a clear sight.

A hammer. What is the meaning of a hammer?
